Lock the Garage!

Hey folks,

A few years ago I was talking to one of our "resident homeless" in 5 Points, and he told me something I have never forgotten. I was cold that winter, and I asked him how he stayed warm at night. He told me that he broke into garages, or just looked for one that was left open. He said he would then use anything he could find to cover up with, like paper or laundry, and sleep until he thought he needed to leave. I have always locked my garage since that day. As horrible as it is to imagine having to lay in a cold garage, covered in news paper to stay warm, It is also horrible to imagine finding a homeless person doing so in your own garage. Lock your garage or storage area, or put a pillow and blanket in there. P.S.- That's a stock photo, not my garage, mine is WAY way worse than that!

I know what you mean. Not this past winter, but the winter before I was awoken by my neighbor yelling in the back hallway (of my apartment building). He was walking out of his apartment to go to work and found a homeless person sleeping on the stairs. He started yelling and of course we all came out to see what was going on. Either way, the guy left and I have been very adamant about locking all of the doors and windows since then. It does not suprise me that they are also forcing their way into garages to sleep. Just be careful and use your common sense! You should keep your garage locked anyway if you have anything of value in there. A bike in an unlocked garage might as well be sitting next to the street for someone to take!
