I don't know what to do about this parking situation on our streets here in Riverside. Here is yet another result of someone hitting a parked vehicle along College. The best I can figure, he hit the parked truck, and then over-corrected the car, causing it to roll over. There was a couple in the car, and the woman was pregnant. It did not look good for her, but I hope everything turned out ok when they got them to the hospital.

Ok. While that is a horrible tragedy for the pregnant woman, it has nothing to do with the "parking situation" in Riverside. I've lived in this neighborhood for close to 4 years now and I can tell you plain and simple people are stupid. IT'S A PARKED CAR! IT WILL NOT MOVE OUT OF YOUR WAY! DRIVE ACCORDINGLY! Ugh. It's the same with the rain in this city. You get a little drizzle and suddenly people slam on their brakes, swing over two lanes of traffic and put their hazards on. WTF!!! IT'S RAIN NOT A HAIL STORM!!! And you wonder why there are so many traffic accidents in this city. PAY ATTENTION PEOPLE!!!
I have to agree with Chris on this one. The parking on Post and College is a nightmare since they changed them from being one way. Of course, I wouldnt DREAM of parking on either of those streets because of all of this, but it seems that just about every day I see someone else's car all bashed up from people getting a little too close or whatever. I dont think it would be as bad if people would only park on ONE side of the street, but all I can really say is watch where you park and watch where you are going!
Thank you guys, you are BOTH right. I have never understood the whole "holy shit its raining!" thing here in the 904. What I was talking about was the "chicken" situation where one car is coming one way, and the other from the other direction, and these two have to decide who is squeezing between the two parked cars, first. Some of the accidents are because of a failed negotiations between an east-bound and a west-bound driver. The rest are usually beer. Word?
surprisingly, the majority of people (i.e. idiots) who hit parked cars or just HAVE to get through 2 milliseconds before the other car are stone cold sober. They're just STUPID. I ride my bike to work, on the weekends sometime I will ride around the area. You would be amazed, even on a bicycle, people have no idea what they're doing. They will either come to a complete stop so that I, a cyclist, can maneuver through the parked cars or they will speed up, take up all of the middle lane and damn near run me off the road to get through before me. People in the 904 are stupid. Plain and simple. More common sense and common courtesy and less nascar mario mancuso crap. Sorry, just got into work, so I'm a little bitter. To all you who drive cars. WATCH WHAT YOU'RE DOING, GET OFF YOUR CELL PHONE AND DRIVE!!! :-\ grrrrr.
That have been one of my concerns also. I too think it should be parking on one side of the street. That is something we could bring up at the townhall meeting with our councilman W Jones.
